Please Welcome a New Design Team Member!

Scrap That! is thrilled to welcome Ivana Camdzic to our Design Team.  A fellow Canadian, Ivana is from Saskatoon, Sakatchewan (say that 10 times really fast!)
Ivana has a unique style and tremendous passion to bring to the team and we are so pleased to welcome her!  Be sure and stop by her blog: http://papergirlcrafts.blogspot.com
Hello fellow scrappers! My name is Ivana, and I am scrapbook FANATIC! I have been scrapping since I can remember picking up my first pair of scissors. It was not until 2004 that I started an interest in modern-day scrapbooking in an attempt to find a more creative way to preserve my memories. I fell in love with this art form the moment that I realized I could combine all of my passions (photography, sketching, painting, sewing, etc…) into one fabulous creation!

Shortly after I started scrapbooking, I was offered a position at our local scrapbook store. I worked there part-time while going to university. The workload of school got to be over-bearing and I had to say goodbye to my scrappy job. I think that was the most important thing that could have happened to me during my schooling. I realized just how much scrapbooking really meant to me. So, I obtained my business degree, with a major in accounting, and decided that for now, I would put that on hold, to follow my creative aspirations.

I went back to work for, design for, and teach classes at our local scrapbook store and I have now been there for almost a full year.  In the first little while, I taught a couple of classes to get the feel of teaching, and before long I was fully in love with the idea! So, I now teach an advance scrapbooking class every month to a bunch of wonderful, and incredibly talented gals! In addition to teaching and working, I create layouts for our other classes and I also create layouts for the store to display.

I find that I go in an out of phases of what I enjoy making...I sometimes create layouts, sometimes I switch it up and make cards, and then other times I choose to alter items. Whichever I may do, I generally stick to the same style. I love the shabby chic, romantic, and delicate look. You will often see me using soft colours and a LOT of texture! My favourite products are things I can make my own. I love using white ANYTHING which I can glimmer, glitter or alter. I love pearls, lace, soft and organic shapes, border punches, and my beloved liquid pearls! My style is very feminine, so I tend to use a lot of flowers and usually stay away from very masculine paper or embellishments. I draw my biggest inspirations from pretty paper, beautifully designed spaces and many other art forms like sculptures, fine china, antique packaging, beautifully decorated cakes, and clothing...just to mention a few!

I have only recently joined the online scrapbooking community and I love every bit of it! I am absolutely in love with the Scrap That! site and the idea of providing a high-quality, beautifully hand-picked and coordinated kits! I am so honoured and SO happy to have this opportunity to be a part of the INCREDIBLY talented Design Team! I look forward to working with the super friendly DT gals, the GORGEOUS kits, and to making wonderful friends along the way!

Fabulous Cork Tutorial!

Hi ladies (and any gents reading this as well!) Tara blogging today with a fantastic tutorial using cork.  Who would have thought that this great medium could be used for scrapping as well!?

The sheet included in the Scrap That! October Kit is perfectly thin enough to do just about anything you would want to do with a piece of paper.  I had so much fun experimenting with my cork and found the following cool uses:

As a matting behind a photo
Painted and used as a piece of background 'paper'
Stamped and cut out to use as an embellishment
Punched with any of your punches to create flowers, circles, etc
Punched with your border punches to create decorative trim

The possibilities are endless. I decided to take it one step further and see if I could create a 'fan flower' that everyone had been asking about in a few of my previous layouts.  Although a titch brittle when 'bent' the cork can be reinforced with a sheet of cardstock or patterned paper and transformed into a gorgeous fan flower as shown in my tutorial below.

Thanks so much for stopping by!! Have fun creating your 'cork' blooms!!!

September Kit Colors Contest Winner!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our September Kit Colors Contest. Drum Roll please.....................Congratulations to Karolina Wycislik who won the October Scrap That! Kit "Autumn Rain." We adore the photo on her "Beautiful Girl" LO and this page has so many interesting elements. By keeping the background white, the shabby elements really stand out. We love the intricate 3D paint work and the vintage elements in the bird and twine. The subtle hints of blue add just enough contrast and the banner is super sweet. Congratulations Karolina!

Scrap That! Launches a Mini Album Kit!

Hello Everyone, it's Tara Blogging,

I am a happy blogger today because I have great news to share!

Scrap That! is pleased to present our very first mini album kit featuring Basic Grey's Cappella Collection and paired with a gorgeous Edgy Album from Bo Bunny. I had the pleasure of being asked to design the albums for this MINI ALBUM Kit Club and of course, I accepted!! So... you will be seing a LOT more mini albums in my upcoming repitoire of projects (they are so addicting)

Well.... are you ready to be dazzled? Rich browns, sweet cream and soft neutrals are the stunning palette of this kit. Old world elegance, ripe with tradition. Each kit comes with detailed step-by-step instructions for you to recreate the same mini as show below or you can create your own masterpiece with the beautiful kit contents.

Here is the full kit - LOVED working with this soft line so much - very versatile and gorgeous for any occasion. I chose to do the mini as a gift for my bff and showcase her new baby Aveline.

Here is a close up of some fussy cutting (love this technique) as well as those gorgeous crochet doilies that have made their way into each and every one of my latest projects. I inked the alphas and finished with glossy accents.

What a little doll!! Some beautiful Prima blooms, vintage lace, velvet leaves....

Close up of all the beautiful textures. On the alphas here I used some distress paint and ink.

Mom and Dad with their new babe. Love these shots! For the butterflies you can either use a punch or simply trace out a butterfly shape from another piece of patterned paper (I used one from Basic Grey Ambrosia Collection) and cut out from your paper pad.

The mini album also came with some cool chipboard flourishes. I cut mine slightly to create the number '3'. Love the contrast of this page - the black - still looks fantastic with the rest of the album with the fussy cut blooms and beautiful, soft ribbon.

I hope that you've enjoyed this album as much as I enjoyed creating it. I look forward to working with this new medium - mini albums - more frequently as they make such wonderful gifts and memorable keepsakes. With the step by step instructions, the albums are very simple and quick (quick for you - not me - LOL!)

We're already busy planning our next few months' - staying true to our classic style and leaning a little towards the vintage/rustic feel that I call my own. You won't be disappointed in these gorgeous mini kits.

Design Tip--Rolled Papers

Good Morning! It's Karen, here with you today, providing you with a neat design tip.=)

So I have seen a technique alot lately...rolled papers on layouts. I always say it looks so neat and I will try it out but never get around to it, well I did it! Finally!

Gather your Supplies:
*papers of your choice(the length I used was 1 inch wide by 3 inches long)
*pen, rub on tool, anything with a thin tip
*Glue dots

Lets Start:
1. Take your strip of paper, wrap one end around your tool and start rolling it, keeping it as tight a roll as you can.
2. When you reach the end, place a glue dot on the inside of the paper and this holds the tightness of the roll.=) (Pardon the dirty nails, I have been glimmer misting alot this weekend.)
Here's what it should look like!
And here is the layout I used these on.
I hope you enjoyed this quick and super easy tip! If you try it out be sure to post it in the gallery so we can all see!=)
Have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend!

((HUGS))
~Karen

Crackle Paint on the sides/outline of the leaves.  Let dry.

          Let dry.

2.  Prepare circle frame.

12.  Add title on top right portion using alphabet stickers.

13.  Add journaling on the bird/journal cutout from Songbird paper.  Add stamped butterfly image.
