Vintage Flower Tutorial

Hi Ladies it's Karen!
I just wanted to share a quick tutorial on how to make a beautiful vintage inspired flower.
It's a relatively quick flower to make and no need for fancy punches. =) A plus!! =)
Step 1.
Cut 5 circles, whatever size you'd like your flower to be. To add more shape, I cut my flowers with a large scallop edge scissor. I then inked all my flowers.

Step 2.
Crinkle them all, this gives a more weathered look.

Step 3.
If you want more color in your flower, just sprits with some glimmer mist. This also makes the flower more manageable while you create it. Plus, gives it a gorgeous glimmer effect.

Step 4.
Proceed with gluing them in a layered manner.

Step 5.
When you get to your 3rd layer, while your glue is still wet, gather the center. This will give your flower more volume and seperate from the bottom layer.

Step 6.
When you have adhered your top layer, cut 3 slits into your flower. It does not matter where youcut the slits.

Step 7.
Add your center and lastly arrange your layers for more dimension.
If you want a thicker flower just add more layers.

Well that is all for now.
Be sure to stick around for our sneak collage of the August kit on July 26th and for the full reveal on the 29th! I will be using this flower on a project created with the kit. :p
See you then!

3 New DT Members!

I am thrilled to announce that we are adding 3 new DT members to the Scrap That! family. Please help me welcome (drum roll)...

Tina Rutledge - We loved what she created with the April and May kits and we couldn't possibly let her go after her guest spot with us. Her soft romantic style is perfect for our kit club!
Hi Everyone! My name is Tina Rutledge. We have recently moved to the sunny state of Florida. I'm from Chicago, IL. and have lived there all my life, so I'm a city girl at heart. I have been married for 14 years to my wonderful and loving husband and we have 5 children. As a stay at home Mom, they definitely keep me busy, but are my inspiration. There are many things that inspire me and bring out my creativity. That is why I love scrapping! It allows me to challenge myself, bringing out the true expressions of my creative mind, in paper form. I also enjoy the positive energy it evokes.

Robin Shakoor - We adore her work work and a guest spot was not enough - we had to keep her too! Her wonderfully elegant style is a great compliment to our kits.

My name is Robin Shakoor and paper crafting is my passion!  I live in Virginia with my husband, daughter, one spoiled puppy and three birds.  I am a Human Resources Manager by day and crafter by night.  I have been an avid paper crafting enthusiast since February, 2008.  While I enjoy all design styles, I would have to say that elegant, romantic and vintage are my favorites.   I enjoy incorporating a blend of these three styles into my projects, creating a visual experience for my readers.  I believe that crafting is a shared experience for both me and those who view my work.  Just knowing that I am teaching others through tips, tricks and tutorials on my blog brings me joy.  I like to encourage others to step out and try new things.  I believe that crafting is a personal journey and the roads we take along the way are different and special.

and last but not least...

Shona Keehn - She is a fantastic, supportive community member and a wonderful designer. The superb deep richness to her layouts will be a great style addition to the team.

My name is Shona Keehn and I am from British Columbia, Canada. I have 3 children and a wonderful husband of 26 years. He is very supportive with my scrapping addiction. I have been scrapping for many years but have just found my scrappy style in the last year, Shabby Chic with a bit of vintage, and it is definitely something that I change up lots. I love to try new techniques and make embellishments. One of my favourites is to work with a sketch, either for layouts or cards. I love how so many artists can be so different from one sketch. I get so much inspiration from everyone in the scrapping world and I hope that you can get some from me.

Shona will not only be designing with the kits, she will also assume the role of Design Team Coordinator. As most of you know, I have been the DT and Kit Coordinator since the start of Scrap That! kits. The position has grown to the point that it requires two people to effectively manage all the responsibilities. I will continue in the research and product selection role as well as be an active design team member. I now pass the DT Coordinator "torch" to Shona and am confident she will be an amazing team leader.

Welcome ladies to the team!
Vicky

PS - Next month we have some REALLY exciting guest designers joining us too so stay tuned (tease, tease :)

Paper Pleating

Hello everyone,

Robin here to share one of my favorite paper crafting techniques...paper pleating!  This is a fast and easy technique which adds pure elegance to your projects.

To begin, cut two 2 x 12 strips of paper.  Starting with the first strip, score your paper at the following intervals:

1/2",
1 1/2"
2"
3"
3 1/2"
4 1/2"
5"
6"
6 1/2"
7 1/2"
8"
9"
9 1/2"
10 1/2"
11"

Fold to create pleats as shown in the photo below.  Once you have completed this process, repeat using your second 2 x 12 strip.  You will then be able to connect the two so you have enought to create a 2 x 12 pleated strip.

I hope you give this technique a try.  You will love the look it adds to your pages without adding bulk.  This is perfect if you plan to design a page for a scrapbook.

Have fun and enjoy.

Robin
