MEET OUR GUEST DESIGNER HELENA JOHANSSON!!!

We are so thrilled to have the amazingly talented Helena Johansson join us as Guest Designer for our November monthly kit, reveal day is on October 28th. We are sure you will agree that her creations are amazing and are full of inspiration.

Hi! My name is Helena Johansson, aka Willea, andI’m from Sweden.I live with my dh and we have two children, 9 and 5 years old. I’ve beenscrapping for almost five years and I often say it’s my passion in life! Scrapbooking for me is therapy, relaxation and art. I need it after my long working hours and after taking care of the kids and our house (at least I think about taking care of our house… sometimes scrapbooking comes first!)

My style is romantic and shabby with a touch of vintage. I love all kind of embellishments, especially flowers. I can hardly do a page without flowers. I also love details and I can spend hours on finishing my work, just looking at them and putting a pearl here or another flower there.I also love patterned paper and have tons, as I’m sure most of you do tooJ

I’m proud to be designing for three amazing companies – Petaloo, Dusty Attic and Pion Design. They are my“dream teams” and I’m having the time of my life working with these amazing people running the companies and all the talented women in their DT’s.

I’m so happy to be guest designing for ScrapThat! kit club – the kits are truly amazing and I love everything I’ve seen in the gallery. Thank you so much for inviting me here!

If you want to see some of my work, please visit my blog: http://willeasscrap.blogspot.com

Architecture of a Layout - October

Hi there... Vicky blogging today. I am posting a step by step on how I made my "That is Love" layout with the very gorgeous Oct. Bella Rosa kit (it may be my fave kit since the start of Scrap That! - definitely in the top 3 :) Who doesn't love Prima?

Some people find the romantic/vintage style intimidating to create. The key is layers. I like structure and distressing. I do admire all those heavily torn, painted and deeply shabby layouts with masking and all sorts of bits and pieces... but that's not my style. So, I keep the lines a little "cleaner". Let's get started!

1. Cut off 1/2 inch off the patterned paper (save the strips for later), heavily distress the edges (I used my Zutter) and adhere to plain cardstock.

2. Cut a large circle (8-9 inches) out of the coordinating floral paper, a 5.5 x 7.5 rectangle out of the soft yellow paper (you want the floral vine print to be at one narrow end of the rectangle). I rounded the corners.

3. Hand distress everything, including your strips and start layering. Glue the circle first, then the strips (leave the last half inch of these without adhesive) and then the photo mat and your picture.

 4. Slightly roll the strip ends and adhere half of the Prima lace/bling band to the bottom of the picture.

5. Use green chalk ink on your sweet pea chipboard and cut it into 3 pieces to form around the inside of the circle.

6. Make some lace flowers using Robin's awesome video tutorial.

 7. Add the butterfly to the corner.

8. Add your title and you're already done (you can also journal on the back).

Since the main paper has such a pretty border, I accented with more floral paper in the middle but then broke it up with the wide yellow photo mat to give focus to the picture. All the shapes flow and the page looks "filled-in" but there isn't anything truly complicated about this layout. The paper does most of the romantic/vintage "look" for you. Thanks for joining me today and I hope you give my style a go!

Vicky

MEET OUR GUEST DESIGNER JENI O’CONNOR!

We are so thrilled to have the talented Jeni O’Connor join us as Guest Designer for our October monthly kit, reveal day is on October 7th. We are sure you will agree her work is so whimsical and truly inspiring!

Hi I'm Jeni. I'm thrilled to be asked to be the Scrap That! guest for October.

I'm an Aussie with a Canadian dh, so we get to spend time in two beautiful countries. We have twins, a boy and girl who are growing up way too fast for me and my camera, and a dog Buddy. We currently live in dh's home town in beautiful BC.

I've been a scrapbooker for as long as I can remember. Even as a child I would take photos and write stories about them. I was inspired by my grandmother's love of crafts and scrapbooking brings it all together. Over the years my style has changed due to so many influences and fabulous products available.

Today, I have two distinctly different styles Storybook/whimsical style usually in 3d, where I love to extend the photo and create a scene. I also like to create in a Shabby/arty/, sometimes messy kind of style.

I been lucky to have had many opportunities in scrapbooking. For the past 5 yrs I've been a design team member on the Colour Team for Scrapbook Creations magazine. I've authored regular features and three year long series of published articles, "What's Your Style?"and "Scrapping with the Stars" (astrology and scrapping). More recently, "Reality Bites" (scrapping about real life issues).

I was also a tutor for a number of years at the Australian Scrapbooking Convention.

I'm a Midwife and Teacher by professions when I'm not scrapping.

I'd like to say I'm a domestic engineer, but I'm not really all that domesticated...I'd rather be scrapping!

I currently design for: Manor House Creations, Once Upon A Sketch, and Scrapbook Creations Magazine.

I'm so pleased to have the opportunity to share my creations with you. Please drop in and say "Hi." http://jocmomentsoftime.blogspot.com/
