ScrapThat! is honored to have the BEAUTIFULLY TALENTED designer
joining us this month as our
Featured Guest Designer

I live in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada with my gorgeous husband of 11 years and our three amazing kids who are the heart and soul of my projects. I am now a SAHM to my precious little kiddos but before that, I worked as a webmaster in the Technology industry for many years and loved it. I think I will return to the ‘work’ force one day but for now, my job is at home, raising my kids (and squeezing in a little scrapping on the side).
Random Facts about Me: I have a degree in Psychology, a green belt in karate, love horseback riding (although its been way too long since I last rode), I order a grande dark from Starbucks almost every day, prefer chocolate to any other sweet – although I’ll eat any other sweet over chips/salty stuff any day, I’m the oldest of 3 siblings, gave up hope of maintaining my ‘Monica from Friends’ (as my husband would describe) cleaning habit once I had kids of my own, have earned more grey hairs and wrinkes in the past 8 years than I could have imagined and love my family more than anything else on the face of this earth!
I started scrapbooking in November 2008. Instant addiction. I love papercrafting – LOVE it. I create because it challenges me, it relaxes me and it lets me escape into a world of creativity that I adore. I love to explore different techniques and styles but I feel most natural working with a shabby chic genre with lots of distressing!
If you want to take a peek at some of my work, please stop by my blog for a visit – I’d love to have you

Keren's Tulle Flower Tutorial

Keren here with a quick tutorial on how to make a flower with the Tulle from your August ScrapThat! Kit.

First cut the tulle into even strips of about 2-3 inches, depending on how big you want the flower to be.

Using the pearl brad from the kit, pierce 1 bunched up piece of tulle in the centre.

This is how it should look in the back

Add another piece of tulle perpendicular to the first piece. Then add a small doily from the embellishment add-on (any color you like). I chose blue.

Add 2-3 more pieces of Tulle through the brad and fill in the gaps of the petals. Then add the large doily at the end. Fold the brad out to hold the flower in place.

Here is the finished flower:

and here it is incorporated into my layout.

Keren's August Kit Creations

Keren here to show you in detail the layouts I made with my ScrapThat! August Kit.

For this first layout, I used blue and brown hues. I started with a circle and some leftover strips of paper. I cut out some flourishes and the title out of the blue cardstock using my Cricut machine.  I clustered the flowers, doilies and the beautiful Prima nest to frame the photo. I used the Kaisercraft rub-ons to balance the page on the opposite side and added some onto the brown envelope.  I tucked some hidden journaling inside the envelope and added some pieces of the chipboard frame behind the it.  Finally I decorated with some pearls

For this layout I slanted the middle paper and added lace and pearls behind it. I ripped some of the edges and added some Prima resin corners and lace underneath. I decorated each area with a rose. I clustered a large flower from my stash, along with a tulle flower I made (see tutorial tomorrow), some small flowers and a butterfly. I used the chipboard frame around the picture. I had to cut it in half and tuck it under the photo. Finally I added the some pearls to accent the patterned paper.
Tip: to get the white effect on the background paper I rubbed it with a wipe. It took some of the blue glossy effect from the top.

For my final layout I used ScrapThat! August Sketch. I made 3 flowers out of my Cricut machine and added some leaves, cheese cloth and butterflies in the cluster.

I hope you like my creations today. If you would like to see more of my work please visit me at:

Flower tutorial by Amarilys

Amarilys here with a brand new flower tutorial! By now you know that I love to make my own flowers so here's the new one that I made just for this kit and it's an easy one too!

Supplies:
  • Spellbinders Rose Creations
  • Manual Die cutting Machine (I use the Cuttlebug)
  • Ranger Stickles Icicle
  • White Pearl Brad (included in kit)
  • Cream Cardstock (included in kit)
  • mini mister with water

Step 1. Die cut 3 of each size from the smallest up.

Step 2. Mist them with water and start pinching each individual petal as shown.

Step 3. Use a pearl brad and start layering them from the smallest to the larges and staggering the petals to make a fluffier bloom.

Step 4. Your bloom should look like this when you are done. You can move the individual dies around until you are happy with your flower. You can also add a bit of adhesive between the larger dies so that they hold better.

Step 5. Bling up your bloom with stickles and you are done!

Thanks for stopping! I hope that you are inspired to make something with this amazing kit! If you want to see more of my creations, please stop by my blog

ScrapThat August Creations by Amarilys Doria

Amarilys here today sharing with you the projects that I made with the July Kit "Summer in my Garden". I managed to make 3 layouts, a card and a tag!

My first layout is based on my August Sketch Challenge:

and here's my take on it:

I used the Main Kit and the Embellishment add-on for this layout. The doily, which I glimmer misted in brown, is from my stash. For this layout, I went with a blue/brown color palette. I water distressed the background pattern paper and layer it over a punched white cardstock (from my stash) and over another blue pattern paper which I mounted unto a brown cardstock (from my stash as well). I did some more die cutting and stamping on this layout too. The picture is from this year's Valentine's Day, which we celebrated the day after because my hubby worked, hence the blue/brown color combo instead of the red/pink traditional Valentine's Day colors.

Here are a few close ups:

Below is my second layout:

For this layout, I only used the Main Kit. The white doily is from my stash and the blue alphas in the title are from the June Kit. These pictures were taken at our new home, out in the Jacuzzi. I love how soft and summery this layout turned out! I handmade my own flowers and leaves using Heartfelt Creations dies.

Here are a few close ups:

Finally, here's my last layout:

I used the Main Kit and the Embellishment Add On for this layout. This layout is based on Kaisercraft's  Saturday July Sketch #2 and I used a picture of my mom last year. She is not very photogenic so this one is one of the best ones I had of her. :)
I traced the diecut paper that is included int his month's kit unto this pink paper and cut around it to make my own die cut paper. I made some roses out of the brown pattern paper and made a little banner using the rub-ons, alphas and a piece of hemp cord from my stash.

Here are a few close ups:

You can find the August Kit "Once Upon a dream" on the ScrapThat! Kit Page. This month’s kit features  the beautiful Charlottes Dream Collection from Kaisercraft. The kit is full of gorgeous goodies, such as lace, bling, an array of pretty flowers and much, much more!

Before you go, I want to announce the winner for the August Sketch Challenge! Thanks to everyone who played along and I hope to see you again for next month's sketch! You wont want to miss it!

The winner, according to random.org, is:
Lindy
Congrats!!!
