~Scrap That! May Design Tip~

Hi y'all! Ivana here today :) with a little tip I use quite often when designing cards and other scrappy projects. I usually like to work 'off the page' or in this matter, off the card :)

I find squares to be a great starting point, and then I like to add interest using shapes, punches and other great elements in fun layers, on and slightly off the project!

Here is an example of a card created with the gorgeous May anniversary Scrap That! kit, using fun shapes to embellish the card. There are several types of shapes I like to use...Some inspired by stamps (like the sentiment oval and tag), some inspired by punches (like the heart punched shape at the top of the card), and others inspired by tracing templates (like the pink piece). Some of the shapes are directly on the card, while others are placed off the card ever so slightly (heart punch) to offset the square shape :)

Tutorial for creating a layout....with the "Spring Romance" May Kit

Hi all!  Tina here today to show you a simple demonstration of creating a layout with your May Kit. Going to show the simple steps that I used in creating this page. Lets get started.....

For this layout I just knew what paper I wanted to use. I had 2 pieces of this paper. 1 sheet for my page and the other I cut up.

So I started by a simple distress and inking on the page
Adding lace is one thing I often do. I cut a piece of lace. Pulling gently around all edges of the lace piece. This will give it a slightly distressed look. You could also make rips in it. Giving it some gentle pulls will also make it stretch a bit, and this makes it easier to place all of your items on top of it.
I have next cut a lacey doily from the patterned paper and judged where I would place my photo.
Adding in another small layer under the photo. Now I'm ready to start placing my embellishments around the page.... Dress Form
Vintage Nameplate that will hold my title and flowers...
I wanted the flowers to kinda follow the curve of the doily. I used some leaves from the extra paper to the flowers. Some simple fussy cuts.


Here the Vintage Nameplate was covered simply by cutting a piece from the paper. Adhere the paper to the chipboard with a bit of tacky glue.
It easily fits right back together. For the Dress form and Vintage Nameplate I covered them with some white paint and then used Alcohol Inks. To see the complete tutorial on this have a peek here over at  Dusty Attic

How to make a Lily

Vicky blogging here with a new flower tutorial! I am in love with the new Prima Corine flowers... but of course they are hard to find here in Canada and I just needed to see if I could make my own version (for a fraction of the price and with adding an extra petal layer :)

Here is what you will need: 

- 3 flower shapes with 3 pointed petals. I just used my Marvy punch and hand-cut the petal corners off. I must say this is my favorite flower punch because of the versatility and embossed feature. You can cut out a similar shape and trace it.

- Water to mist

- Scrapbook chalk or chalk ink (I prefer scrapbook chalk for this and actually found some at my dollar store!)

- White paint or snow writer, puff paint or glitter - whatever best suits your project style

- A decorative brad or a few pearls or stamens for the center

- A rounded object (like a Sharpie pen or painbrush end)

- A foam mat (like a computer mouse pad)

- Glue of choice

Step 1: Make your template.

Step 2: Cut your 3 flower layers.

Step 3: Water mist the layers and pinch the towards the middle of each petal to create a crease.

Step 4: While still damp press the center into the foam mat to raise the petals. Let dry completely before the next step.

Step 5: Add some chalk or ink to the center and over the crease for definition.

Step 6: Glue your layers and press all together into the mat to form a little space for the centre pearls to fit into.

Step 7: Paint or...

Step 8: Glue your decorative center and you are ready to add to your project!

Hi everyone, My name is Karola Witczak. I am an absolutely addicted scrapbooking Mommy to Rose, wife to Martin, friend of our furry friends - Miki and Chili. I'm a little crazy woman, who is dedicated to my scrapbooking passion almost every day, for a few years now.  I am constantly trying to develop my passion - in different ways and stepping on different paths - from digital scrapbooking 6 years ago, to an intensive exploration of the intricacies of traditional scrapbooking, constant learning and teaching others as a scrapbooking instructor. Currently I am working as a freelance designer for a large group of scrapbooking companies, shops, projects, challenge blogs and I'm proud ambassador of many top brands and initiatives in my country of Poland and abroad. Sometimes I design products for scrapbooking - it gives me lots of joy and satisfaction. I am proud and honored to being Creative Director and Product Designer in The ScrapCake company. In everyday life I create a LO's, cards, albums, and other things not directly related to scrapbooking - such as notebooks, home decor. 

It is hard to define my style, mostly my friends call it "Karola's style," and often hear that this is a soft, romantic, feminine, eclectic. I love shabby chic but with something modern. In most of my work you can usually see portraits of my daughter - I am absolutely in love with her face, and such pictures usually go to my Lo's and albums. Definitely I like all feminine, romantic themes, delicate, soft colors, I'm also dependent on the sewing machine, especially when I make cards. I love to add new things to my projects, but usually I have a big inspirations from patterned papers, flowers and interesting color palettes - I believe when I have a piece of paper I can create anything! 

I am so happy to be able to create a ScrapThat! Album Kit and to create a mini album with brief instructions and suggestions. I hope you will like it and you will have a lot of fun creating your own albums, as I had! 

New Guest Designer Jolaine Frias

Due to other commitments Melissa Vettorel has stepped down from her guest design spot with us. We are pleased to announce that Jolaine Frias has accepted the position and will be designing with the August and September kits!

 Hello!  My name is Jolaine Frias.  I am a full time school teacher and Mom to a two year old little boy and a delightful six year old little girl.  I have been married for 9 years to a very loving and supportive man, together; we live in the beautiful Hudson Valley region in New York.  I have been scrapbooking for about 5 years and absolutely love this wonderful hobby.  Paper crafts have allowed me to combine my love for patterned paper and photography while documenting unique family memories, what more could I ask for?


I guess I can call my style of scrapbooking shabby chic - romantic with a touch of vintage.  I normally all the design of the paper and photos to inspire me; that's why it is so important for me to make the photo the focus of my layouts.  Besides making layouts, I also enjoy creating mini albums and altered projects.


I have been a long time fan of Scrap That!'s beautiful kits and talented design team.  I am truly honored to be a Guest Designer!  Thanks Vicky and Lori for the opportunity!
