Project Details by Lisa Gregory our August Featured Guest Designer

When I opened my kit and saw the Spanish moss, I was stumped, because I live in Florida and the stuff grows wild on my trees. I am always pulling it off in bunches as it chokes the life out of my smaller trees and tossing it in the fire pit. How could something so pretty be so deadly!!  I thought of making little birds nests until  the idea came to make a small wreath to frame a photo.  It worked out perfectly. I saved the clipped wires from the flowers and used them to adhere the moss to a card board circle I created from the packing box. That box our kits came in sure came in handy in more ways than 1!!

I added the Smooch paint to the flowers and leaves. With the smaller scraps of paper, I made some tiny rolled roses. and added a pearl to each center.

 I die cut some smaller vines.

 

  Here is a closeup of the Spanish Moss wreath.

I love my Martha Stewart deep edge punches. This decorative strip was made by punching both   sides of the paper strip. I added the pearls down the center.

I created the tiny blue rolled roses from the scraps of extra paper I cut away. Then just added a half pearl to the center.

All I did to the butterflies were paint them with the Smooch and curled up the wings a bit.  I only adhered the body to the paper and as the paint dries, the wings curled on their own.

For the next layout I created all of the flowers with the single page of yellow card stock in the kit. And I still had some scraps left over to created the journaling words on. These Maja Design papers were an absolute pleasure to work with. They are gorgeous!! They begged to be adorned with flowers!!

Believe it or not, the corrugated paper did come with the kit. I used the packing box. Just tore a small piece off of the box and peeled back the paper.

Here is a close up showing the cluster of flowers. I used some Kraft paper for the leafy flourishes.

The journaling words were printed up using Photoshop. I printed out the phrase and cut the individual words apart. I inked the edges and using a very fine tipped Zig pen, I outlined right inside and outside of each word for added dimension. It is a phrase from Shakespeare.

I created a file for the butterflies. I just printed them out, cut them up and rubbed  some Rock Candy Stickles on them, curled the wings a bit and let them dry. They turn out to be little gems...

I used an old stamp from the  Build a Frame Stamp set from  IOD for the opposite corners to add a bit of design.

August Introductions

We have two fabulous introductions to make for August.

First, we are so delighted to introduce our

August Guest Designer

Lisa Gregory.

Lisa is well known for her amazing handcrafted flowers. She currently designs for Blue Fern Studios and is on the Donna Salazar 2013 Guest Design Team.

"Hi, My name is Lisa, and by profession I am a registered nurse. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 children who are now successful young adults.  I have been a crafter my whole life. Back in 2005, my son was doing his senior project with his girlfriend (who is now his wife). They were creating a scrapbook of their lives. They elicited my help as I was the crafty one. We took a ride to The Dollar Tree (our local dollar store) that had a section dedicated to scrap booking papers, albums, embellishments, flowers, and we grabbed everything we could find. I knew about the new way of scrap booking, but never gave it any thought until that trip to The Dollar Tree. After helping the kids create their albums, I was curious as to where I could get more "scrapbooking stuff". So I drove to our local Michaels and Joanns craft stores. That is when I became hooked. I sought out the local scrapbook stores and found stuff I didn't even know existed until then. I shopped and shopped and shopped some more. I found Scrapbook.com and saw the kind of scrap booking the artists did. I was amazed at the styles. It just wasn't cut and paste and stickers. It was 3 dimensional, it was gorgeous, and oh so inspiring. So I created a gallery, created my first layout and the rest is history. My style has changed a bit throughout the years, but playing with paper and scissors is still so therapeutic for me. I am honored and excited to be Guest Designing for Scrap That for the month of August."

I'm so excited to be here!! I'm excited, humbled and honored to be here. I live in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. I have a 14 year old son, David and our crazy pug George. It can get super fun crazy. I’ve been scrapping for many years. I fell in love with it. I love creating. As the years have passed I’ve seen so many neat and amazing things. I’ve enjoyed learning and growing.

I have a love for flowers, chippies and beautiful papers. Actually I love all things connected with scrapping! It was so much fun to serve on The Paper Mixing Bowl. I currently serve at Paper Temptress. I’ve been published in Scrap N’ Art Magazine.  I love trying new techniques and colors. I also try a variety of different styles. Mixed Media intrigues me.

Natasha is an amazing mixed media and paper artist designing for Donna Salazar Designs, The Dusty Attic, Pion Design and Zva Creative.

"Hi!  My name is Natasha & I’m the mother of two wonderful children & the wife of an amazing, supportive man. I am a floral designer by day and a scrapbook designer by night. I first discovered my love for scrapbooking in 2004 but was unable to scrap because I was a single mother at the time. For years I was unable to craft, but my passion for it never faded. I married my soul mate in 2010 and my husband inspired and encouraged me to start creating. If it weren’t for him, I would have never have been able to begin doing what I love.

As for my scrapping style... well, I don’t know how to categorize my style LOL. I just create using products I love. I love to incorporate different techniques in my work and use a variety of elements. Every day I am inspired by the work and talent of others, and I hope to be able to inspire others with my work as well."

Hey, my name is Zoe Nemburt, and I am absolutely thrilled to be asked to design as a guest for ScrapThat! this month. I started scrapbooking in 2009 and seriously never looked back. I felt I had finally found my crafty passion!! I have always dabbled in something crafty. I live in the province of Nova Scotia with my Husband, three children, and chocolate Labrador, Bailey, whom accompanies me on my 6km walks every day.

This year I haven't been seen much in the crafting world… I'm still here but currently working on a bigger page, my 3000 sq. ft. home which we purchased last year is going through a big change so most of my creative energy is currently going into renovating. I have designed for a couple of Manufacturers in the past, Pebbles, My Little Shoebox, Tattered Angels, Harmonie and My little bit of Whimsy. I have also been published in Canadian Scrapbooker, Scrapbooks and Cards Today and also a Russian Magazine too, I couldn't tell you the name I don't speak russian unfortunately :).

My biggest achievement of the year was taking part in a 5km Colour Run with my oldest daughter to raise money for new school equipment. It felt so amazing to do something like this. :)

Super Excited to be here for the month of June with the ScrapThat! team and I really hope to inspire you to create something fabulous.

Vellum Flower Tutorial by Featured Guest Designer ~ Gabrielle Pollacco

Hi, It's me, Gabrielle Pollacco here with you today to share a little step by step on how I made these vellum roses (pictured above) with the sheet of translucent vellum in the May ScrapThat! kit!  I always love to find unique items to work with in a kit and when I saw the sheet of vellum, I knew I had to make something fun with it!

Step 1:  I began by cutting out a small section of the vellum and running it through my Quickutz Revolution machine using the Spellbinders "Spiral Blossom #1" die cut.

Step 2:   I took a little make-up sponge and dabbed some Tim Holtz "Victorian Velvet" Distress Ink on the petals (you can use any color ink you like, I just used an aged pink color to suit my layout).  I just worked the ink from the flat edge up.....you want it to fade out slightly, it doesn't have to be a perfect fade, when it use rolled up the effect will be just fine.

Step 3:  Finally the last thing you should do before rolling it all up is to lightly curl the tips of the petals with your finger tips, the vellum will hold the shape.  Now you just begin rolling up the whole thing working from the outside of the spiral in.   See, the sort of rounded center of the spiral?  This is your base for the flower.  I just gave this a good coating of Tombow liquid adhesive.  This stuff is great!  You just wait for it to turn clear (it starts out white)....when it's clear, it has a nice strong tackiness.  So when you roll up your bloom just press the whole design down onto the glue patch at the end.  Hold it for about a minute to insure a good hold.    You may need to crinkle the sections between the petals to get a nice shape to your bloom, I ended up with a little pleat in between each petal.   Now just add the leaves in the kit and decorate with some of the sweet little pearl swirls and  you have yourself a great little embellishment!

GD Lynn Shokoples ~ Featured April Projects

Good Morning Everyone! This is Lynn here today, and I'm so excited to be a guest designer this month for ScrapThat! I have a few projects to share with you using the April Kit. When I saw the patterned papers from the Donna Salazar collection, I was in love.

For this layout I used the main kit only and the sketch by Amarilys Doria but flipped it on it's side. I loved having the burlap in the kit as well, it just added to the shabby feel of the layout of my daughter. I chose to do her photo in black and white to blend into the neutral colors. I added some doilies from my stash and did some faux stitching to finish my project.

Here are some close-ups of my details.

 I used the twine along with some glossy accents to wrap around the flowers.

 I loved the Chipboard Alphas that came with the kit, and I just added a little ink to the edges.

For this layout I played with the main kit and the embellishment add on kit. I will be sharing a tutorial later this month on how I added some texture to the background. I just couldn't get enough of using the burlap, so I added it to this project as well.

 The Maya Road Vintage Trinkets were just the perfect embellishment to add to the center of my flowers along with the Prima Vintage Trinkets. I took the hearts from the strand and tucked them into the flower cluster for some extra bling.

 Here you can see a sneak of the texture I added. I also used my sprays to add color to some white flowers from my stash.

For my last project I used the Prima Flower spray and just tucked it around my photo. I used some punches to play with the frame. The title I cute out of one the patterned papers from the main kit along with my Silhouette Cameo. I just had to add some more of the burlap to my project, can you tell how much I love it?

With the embellishment add on kit there was some chipboard from FabScraps. I used some stamps and ink along with the Maya Road Trinkets to jazz up the chipboard.

Hi everyone! My name is Lynn Shokoples, and I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I've been scrapbooking since the beginning of time when all there was available were pens, rulers and a few stickers. I started my first baby album in 1992! Let's just say that my style has evolved since then. I love to try new techniques, and my style goes anywhere from shabby to some cute and fun projects. I've also been blessed to join the Bo Bunny and Quick Quotes design teams this year. 

When I'm not scrapbooking I'm a wife, and a mom to two wonderful young adults, Nicole who's 25, Ryan who is 20, and my new son-in-law, Christopher. I'm also a new mom to two rambunctious goldendoodle puppies, it sure keeps my days interesting. I'm so thrilled and honored to be a Guest Designer this month with such a group of talented artists here at ScrapThat! Hi! This is Lisa. Thanks for stopping by today and checking out my newest layouts and cards made for "ScrapThat!" I sure hope you were able to to do the blog hop recently...so many beautiful projects with this beautiful February Kit by ScrapThat! The papers from Prima are really beautiful and I'm sure you will Love this "With Love" kit too!

Today I'm going to share with you my layouts and close-up photos so you can see for yourself. This first layout is with my daughter and using the main kit and the add-on kit. I just love the chipboard hearts....and with the papers...well, I just couldn't help myself and kept layering and layering... :) This is a photo of my daughter and her girlfriends shopping at Bloomingdale's. They sure had fun trying on those adorable hats.

Here you can see the lovely chipboard. I made the roses with Bitty Blossoms.

 The leaves come with the main kit and so does the kraft cardstock. I used a few die cuts to blend the layout together.

 Here you can see the gorgeous canvas hearts that come with the main kit too.

Next is a is a totally different color layout using only the main kit from ScrapThat! ~ Pink!! Now who doesn't love pink during the month of LOVE?? I cut several pieces of one paper and layered them behind the photo.

This photo is of my little Roxy again, I thought it really showed her darker features and blended in so well with these papers. I did add the black bling and gala gold glitz to the center of the flowers.

The flowers....so many of them...but it is only paper cut with my Cricut. So if you have a Cricut it will work perfectly, but if not you can use a punch too. I also added a black butterfly created with black cardstock.

 

I didn't have to make a title because it was already on the papers. Love it!

Another closer view of the layering of the Prima Romance Papers. Usually I distress papers but I really didn't think it needed it to show everything off so beautifully.

So here is my vintage card. I layered it using the front and the back of this sheet of Prima Paper. The canvas heart from the main kit is in the background as well as using more of the kraft cardstock. The cute title is also part of the main kit...lots of glittery stickers and small enough to make a title on either your layout or card. I did add cream lace ribbon and a vintage button from my stash to finish this card.

So  here is a different angle and as you can see it has a bit of of a 3D effect. I add pop dots between some of the layers.

Here is my last card made with the kit... Just so you know I do have a few pieces of paper left so you can make other projects too. :) This little cupid card has lots of layers using flowers, ribbons, doily, mesh, string and hearts ALL with the main kit. The gorgeous resin cupid is from Prima and is part of the embellishment add on kit. They really are all beautiful pieces to have in this kit collection.  I added bling pearls to tie in my theme.
