Project Details by Lisa Gregory our August Featured Guest Designer

When I opened my kit and saw the Spanish moss, I was stumped, because I live in Florida and the stuff grows wild on my trees. I am always pulling it off in bunches as it chokes the life out of my smaller trees and tossing it in the fire pit. How could something so pretty be so deadly!!  I thought of making little birds nests until  the idea came to make a small wreath to frame a photo.  It worked out perfectly. I saved the clipped wires from the flowers and used them to adhere the moss to a card board circle I created from the packing box. That box our kits came in sure came in handy in more ways than 1!!

I added the Smooch paint to the flowers and leaves. With the smaller scraps of paper, I made some tiny rolled roses. and added a pearl to each center.

 I die cut some smaller vines.

 

  Here is a closeup of the Spanish Moss wreath.

I love my Martha Stewart deep edge punches. This decorative strip was made by punching both   sides of the paper strip. I added the pearls down the center.

I created the tiny blue rolled roses from the scraps of extra paper I cut away. Then just added a half pearl to the center.

All I did to the butterflies were paint them with the Smooch and curled up the wings a bit.  I only adhered the body to the paper and as the paint dries, the wings curled on their own.

For the next layout I created all of the flowers with the single page of yellow card stock in the kit. And I still had some scraps left over to created the journaling words on. These Maja Design papers were an absolute pleasure to work with. They are gorgeous!! They begged to be adorned with flowers!!

Believe it or not, the corrugated paper did come with the kit. I used the packing box. Just tore a small piece off of the box and peeled back the paper.

Here is a close up showing the cluster of flowers. I used some Kraft paper for the leafy flourishes.

The journaling words were printed up using Photoshop. I printed out the phrase and cut the individual words apart. I inked the edges and using a very fine tipped Zig pen, I outlined right inside and outside of each word for added dimension. It is a phrase from Shakespeare.

I created a file for the butterflies. I just printed them out, cut them up and rubbed  some Rock Candy Stickles on them, curled the wings a bit and let them dry. They turn out to be little gems...

I used an old stamp from the  Build a Frame Stamp set from  IOD for the opposite corners to add a bit of design.

Flower Tutorial by Lisa Gregory ~ August Featured Guest Designer

I haven't  done a flower tutorial in a while. I figured it was time!! I ordered a BUNCH of flower dies not to long ago, and are finally dipping into the stash and creating. Mixing and matching is a wonderful thing!! The possibilities are endless!!...

 Product List

Glue

Ink Blender

Ink of your choice

Kraft Paper

Card Stock color of your choice for flowers

 Sizzix Bigz Die - Flower, Black-Eyed Susan  

  Stylus and pad set (I use McGill)

Art Glitter Good Earth. Elements Earth Textures or Flower soft

    Die-Namics die : Botanical Beauty

 

Cut one large and one small flower from your Sizzix die, Cut 2 of the medium size middles from your Die-Namic die.

 Ink the edges of your flowers using the blending foam applicator for a soft look.

 On the back side of your flowers, use the stylus on the pad press down using a circular motion on each petal until they curl upwards.

Do the same for the middles.

  Now turn your flowers over right side up and you should see the texture you created for realistic flowers.

 Using adhesive of your choice,  layer your flowers by placing the smaller one over the larger one staggering your petals. Then add your 2 middles also staggering the tiny petals.

Add some adhesive to the middle and sprinkle a generous amount of Elements or Flower Soft pressing down a bit to get the particles to sink into the glue. Tap off any excess.

Here is your finished Lazy Dayzie. You can add leaves underneath or cluster them together as I did in the photo below.

On a couple of these flowers, I added an extra (3rd layer) flower layer to make the flowers fuller. It is all a matter of taste and design.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. You can substitute any similar dies to achieve the same effect. I will continue to experiment with mixing and matching all of my wonderful dies!!. Till next time, Happy Flower making!

Lisa Gregory.

Lisa is well known for her amazing handcrafted flowers. She currently designs for Blue Fern Studios and is on the Donna Salazar 2013 Guest Design Team.

"Hi, My name is Lisa, and by profession I am a registered nurse. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 children who are now successful young adults.  I have been a crafter my whole life. Back in 2005, my son was doing his senior project with his girlfriend (who is now his wife). They were creating a scrapbook of their lives. They elicited my help as I was the crafty one. We took a ride to The Dollar Tree (our local dollar store) that had a section dedicated to scrap booking papers, albums, embellishments, flowers, and we grabbed everything we could find. I knew about the new way of scrap booking, but never gave it any thought until that trip to The Dollar Tree. After helping the kids create their albums, I was curious as to where I could get more "scrapbooking stuff". So I drove to our local Michaels and Joanns craft stores. That is when I became hooked. I sought out the local scrapbook stores and found stuff I didn't even know existed until then. I shopped and shopped and shopped some more. I found Scrapbook.com and saw the kind of scrap booking the artists did. I was amazed at the styles. It just wasn't cut and paste and stickers. It was 3 dimensional, it was gorgeous, and oh so inspiring. So I created a gallery, created my first layout and the rest is history. My style has changed a bit throughout the years, but playing with paper and scissors is still so therapeutic for me. I am honored and excited to be Guest Designing for Scrap That for the month of August."

Monica Lowrance

I'm so excited to be here!! I'm excited, humbled and honored to be here. I live in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. I have a 14 year old son, David and our crazy pug George. It can get super fun crazy. I’ve been scrapping for many years. I fell in love with it. I love creating. As the years have passed I’ve seen so many neat and amazing things. I’ve enjoyed learning and growing.

I have a love for flowers, chippies and beautiful papers. Actually I love all things connected with scrapping! It was so much fun to serve on The Paper Mixing Bowl. I currently serve at Paper Temptress. I’ve been published in Scrap N’ Art Magazine.  I love trying new techniques and colors. I also try a variety of different styles. Mixed Media intrigues me.
