Flower tutorial by Amarilys

Amarilys here with a brand new flower tutorial! By now you know that I love to make my own flowers so here's the new one that I made just for this kit and it's an easy one too!

Supplies:

• Spellbinders Rose Creations
• Manual Die cutting Machine (I use the Cuttlebug)
• Ranger Stickles Icicle
• White Pearl Brad (included in kit)
• Cream Cardstock (included in kit)
• mini mister with water

Step 1. Die cut 3 of each size from the smallest up.


Step 2. Mist them with water and start pinching each individual petal as shown.


Step 3. Use a pearl brad and start layering them from the smallest to the larges and staggering the petals to make a fluffier bloom.


Step 4. Your bloom should look like this when you are done. You can move the individual dies around until you are happy with your flower. You can also add a bit of adhesive between the larger dies so that they hold better.


Step 5. Bling up your bloom with stickles and you are done!

ScrapThat August Creations by Amarilys Doria

Amarilys here today sharing with you the projects that I made with the July Kit "Summer in my Garden". I managed to make 3 layouts, a card and a tag!

My first layout is based on my August Sketch Challenge:


and here's my take on it:


I used the Main Kit and the Embellishment add-on for this layout. The doily, which I glimmer misted in brown, is from my stash. For this layout, I went with a blue/brown color palette. I water distressed the background pattern paper and layer it over a punched white cardstock (from my stash) and over another blue pattern paper which I mounted unto a brown cardstock (from my stash as well). I did some more die cutting and stamping on this layout too. The picture is from this year's Valentine's Day, which we celebrated the day after because my hubby worked, hence the blue/brown color combo instead of the red/pink traditional Valentine's Day colors.

Below is my second layout:

For this layout, I only used the Main Kit. The white doily is from my stash and the blue alphas in the title are from the June Kit. These pictures were taken at our new home, out in the Jacuzzi. I love how soft and summery this layout turned out! I handmade my own flowers and leaves using Heartfelt Creations dies.

Finally, here's my last layout:

I used the Main Kit and the Embellishment Add On for this layout. This layout is based on Kaisercraft's  Saturday July Sketch #2 and I used a picture of my mom last year. She is not very photogenic so this one is one of the best ones I had of her. :)

I traced the diecut paper that is included int his month's kit unto this pink paper and cut around it to make my own die cut paper. I made some roses out of the brown pattern paper and made a little banner using the rub-ons, alphas and a piece of hemp cord from my stash.

Altered Clipboard by Alissa

I used the August Kit "Once Upon a Dream" from ScrapThat! to make this clipboard.The little cards with the clips can be pulled out of the pocket for notes. The black piece at the bottom is chipboard painted with Martha Stewart chalkboard paint- excellent for quick notes. 

This clipboard is hanging in my kitchen and has been excellent for noting weekly appts and I've stashed a few important coupons in the pocket so I don't forget about them.

The border punch is Fiskars Sunburst. The gate and butterfly dies are from Spellbinders for Heartfelt Creations. The flower die cut is from my stash.

Altered Chipboard Frame Tutorial by Sandi Smith

Hi everyone...Sandi S here today to share how I altered the Petaloo chipboard frame that was included in the ScrapThat! August Kit. I am sorry there will be no photos...just a close up of the finished product because the whole process happened by accident but it is quite easy.

 You will need the following supplies :

1. Frame(Chipboard or wooden)
2. Patterned paper
3. Glossy accents or any dimensional glue
4. Glimmer Mist
5. Needle or Toothpick

• I first altered the frame with Gesso and Glimmer Glaze. 
• I then cut a piece of patterned paper from the Charlotte's dream collection that would fit behind the frame and glued.
• You then fill in the entire frame with the dimensional glue.
• I then removed the spray nozzle from the Glimmer Mist bottle and placed drops of mist in the corners of the frame.
• Using the toothpick,I dragged the mist through the glue towards the center.
• Let dry. This may take awhile as the glue is quite thick.

Sandi Smith's August Kit Creations

Hi everyone...Sandi S here today to share my creations made with the beautiful ScrapThat! August kit. It features Kaisercraft Charlottes Dream collection and believe me...those papers are BEAUTIFUL!!!

I made this layout of my sweet girl using the ScrapThat! August Main Kit, Flower Add-on and the Embellishment Add-on. The gesso and Mist were from my stash.Here are a few closeups:

On to my second layout that is also of my daughter...no masculine layouts this month!!

This Layout uses the ScrapThat! August Main Kit, Flower Add-on and the Embellishment Add-on. The gesso, FWAB Pearl Flourish and Mist were from my stash. I punched the green leaves from the cardstock included in the kit and made some roses from the coordinating papers. You can find the tutorial here.

My last layout I REALLY struggled with!! Had it done and then tore it all apart and even used a different picture.

This layout uses the Scrapthat! August Main Kit, EAO, FAO and a few things from my personal stash.

Here is a close up of the chipboard frame. I will be sharing how I did this tomorrow!!

Sandi C's August Tutorial

Hello there, scrappers! It's Sandi Clarkson here today with a super quick tutorial on wet distressing your patterned papers.  There are a number of ways to accomplish the same thing but this is the method I use most frequently. 

First, I use my chalk inks or distress inks to define and distress  the paper edges.  I really like the heavily distressed look, so I usually get a lot of ink on the paper. 

After doing that, I go ahead and start wetting my paper usually all the way around the page but sometimes I do random corners. Here, I've taken an old spray bottle and turned it in to a mini-mister. Sometimes, I will paint the water on the paper with a brush for a nice uniform coating. I have even gone so far as to run water from the kitchen sink over my paper. But the misting is what I do most frequently. 

Once the paper is moist, I begin folding the paper back towards me in a fan folded manner. I try to work gently to avoid unplanned tearing of the paper. However, if that happens, I accept that as a creative result and don't worry about it too much! 

Once the paper  is pulled back about like I want it to be, I then heat set the wrinkles with my heat gun. 

That way it stays in place nicely and you can continue working versus waiting for the paper to dry. 

Here was the end result of my page. You can see that I further bent and curled some of my edges with my fingers to complete the distressed look.

Welcome to the Scrap That! Blog!

Are you ready to see what I created using the August Scrap That! Once Upon a Dream?!

"Friends" (LO using MK, EAO, FAO and personal stash)

This kit was such a pleasure to  work with and was so versatile! Loved the KaiserCraft Charlotte's Dream paper collection. 

For my first project, I've used a photo of my dgd with one of her horses. I chose the large Die Cut paper along with the brown print paper (Illusion) and added a Dusty Attic grass border (from my stash) as well as a Dusty Attic chicken wire piece behind my photo. Lots of gesso, Glimmer Mist and Glimmer Glam made them come to life. I hope you got in on Scrap That!'s last Dusty Attic order because the chippys are such a nice element to add to your pages. I've also used my fav Donna Salazar Twig stamp to enhance my "grassy" area, then made a few flowers with my Spellbinders Rose Creations die to go along with a few from the kit. There is some wet distressing which I will have a tutorial on tomorrow.  Note that the wooden butterfly is from the EAO and the light green flowers and the brown Glimmer Misted flowers are from FAO. I also did some more of my random punch work along a few sides as well as some machine stitching. 

"Danny Boy" (LO using MK only and personal stash)

Here is my sweet little Danny Boy, named after my husband. He and his twin brother are about 17 months old now and have so enriched this granny's life. 

I've been inspired by all the drippy paint artists that I've seen lately, so it is hard to credit just one person. But I've been dying to get a little more bold with it as I have done here. Perfect for this rowdy little guy! Otherwise I've added lots of soft elements to the page to go along with my sweet grandson's soft blonde hair and skin. Since he is still a baby, I thought I could get away with it! LOL There is more Dusty Attic from my stash here (French Flourish and the baroque circle) along with florals from the main kit as well as Manor House flowers from my own stash. The tulle, lace and little Prima bird nest are also from the main kit. This page serves as my Main Kit only layout, adding only Dusty Attic, paper doilies and Manor House blooms (peach) from my own stash. 

"Other Things" (LO using MK, EAO, FAO and personal stash)

I was itching to do a round layout this time! I am always  inspired by Helena Johansson's work and she does lots of beautiful round pages. I split the large Zva flower (FAO) in half to use on either side of the photo after painting it to match my paper. You will also note the lovely crochet doilies from the EAO that I've used as flowers. I sneaked in another Dusty Attic piece from my stash (Scroll Border #2) and adorned it with the blue decorative stone from the MK after sponging some paint over my piece. It is finished with lots of Gesso to give it a whitewashed look. The die cut paper behind my layout is a very old paper from my stash made by Creative Imaginations but it is not attached to the page.

"Bobby" (LO using MK, EAO and FAO)

Here is  the other twin grandson, Bobby. He is the cuddle-bug! Again, I've gone flower crazy but Grandpa says it's okay  .. he is a baby after all. The tulle and cheesecloth worked great on this page. I was overjoyed to see them in our kit this time! Here I've added the Petaloo Chipboard Frame (EAO) behind my photo, then topped it with cheesecloth and flowers. The yummy green flowers are from FAO and white and peach (originally white) are from the main kit.
