heart embellie tutorial by Amarilys

Happy Valentine's Day! Amarilys here and today I want to share with you a quick tutorial on how to make the heart embellie that I used in my B.F.F layout. This heart embellie is super fast and easy to make so let's get started!

Supplies:
  • Kaisercraft Wood Heart
  • Basically Bare Heart
  • tiny pink rosebuds
  • Smooch -Shabby Pink
  • BoBunny Jewels (dark grey pearls)
  • Life’s Little Occasions Alpha Stickers (black heart)

Step 1. Color your heart canvas with the Smooch paint included in the kit and let it dry (approximately 30 minutes).

Step 2. Add the wooden Kaisercraft heart over the dry canvas heart.

Step 3. Grab the three rosebuds and twist them together to make a small vine. Curl the ends to make a small coil. Add to the wooden heart as shown using a glue dot.

Step 4. To finish it off, add three dark grey pearls to the wooden heart and a black sticker embellie heart to the rosebuds to cover the glue dot.

Here's a close up to the heart embellie.

Thanks for stopping! I hope that you are inspired to make something with this amazing kit! If you want to see more of my creations, please stop by my blog.

February Kit Creations by Tracey Sabella

It's Tracey S. here to share my February Kit Creations with you. This kit is fabulous to work with!! The paper is so gorgeous for either a feminine or masculine page.

A friend commented on this engagement photo of Elizabeth and Andrew saying that it looked like something from a fairytale. So, I decided to go for a dreamy, fairytale look for this page.

"True Love Stories"

Here are some close-up shots:

The Prima resin cherubs are so sweet!! To add some subtle color, I brushed distress ink on the cheeks and bird and applied some Viva Inka Gold to the wings and hair. The gorgeous Prima flowers are also from the kit, and the little open roses are created with the Donna Salazar/Spellbinder dies from kit paper. See how I layered the focal background paper over another sheet? After distressing, I cut out all but a one inch border of that paper and used it for many of the embellishments you see on the page including these roses.

This sweet butterfly was cut from that paper using Donna's Wonderful Wings dies. I inked the edges and added a little charm from my stash.

My cluster above the photo. The leaves are die cut, crinkled and inked.

The Kaisercraft wood heart flourishes are so darling!! I painted this one with gesso, inked, and stamped with a script image. The title was stamped and heat embossed.

Next I have for you a wedding layout. Elizabeth and Andrew were married in October and we got the photos in January - just in time to create a page with the February Kit.

"A Perfect Day"
MK, EAO, FAO

Close-Ups:
This banner cluster was created with strips of paper I distressed and colored by rubbing with Distress Inks pulling colors from the focal paper mixed with ribbons from the kit.

Side View:
Here you can see the netting tucked in under the gorgeous kit and FAO flowers. The Kaisercraft heart was painted gold then stamped again with a script image.

I had to sneak a bit of mixed media in, so used Martha Stewart's texture effect with one of her butterfly stencils and sprinkled with gold microbeads.

I framed the photo with distressed layers of the kit cardstock and doily. I also added a chipboard piece from my stash. The Green Tara glittered hearts were spritzed with some glimmer mist before scattering them across the page.

The craft journaling blocks in the main kit were perfect to create this medallion. I topped it with the pearl heart ribbon slide and a strip of ribbon and more of my crumpled paper ribbons below. The metal heart trinket is from my stash.

I spread some clear rock candy Distress paint over the title and when dry cut it out. There are so many fabulous word blocks in this paper collection that make wonderful titles!!

For my final page, I used Amy's gorgeous February sketch. If you would like to join our sketch challenge, you can find the details here.

Elizabeth kept a list of the things she dreamed about in a future husband. When she met Andrew, boy matched list. Fortunately, he felt the same way about her.

"Dream Come True"
MK only

Close-Ups:
This cluster is a blend of kit flowers with the focal flower created using scraps of kit paper and colored with the smooch accents from the main kit. I've not used smooch accents before and love the creamy pearlized color!! Here is a close-up:

The tutorial for this flower can be found here.

I was inspired by a recent layout by our designer, Tracey Gregory, to add seed beads. Using tweezers, I dipped each bead into Glossy Accents and then placed randomly on the page. I also do some beading, so have tons of excess beads laying around. These little beads are quite inexpensive and can be found with the jewelry making department of your local craft store.

Isn't the set of canvas and felt hearts darling? I stamped each of the 3 smallest canvas hearts with different images, then inked the edges and added trinkets from my stash. All the trinkets and charms on my pages came from one package I found clearanced out at a local craft store for a mere 50 cents. The tape down the center was created with a 12 inch strip of Crafty Power Tape. I sprinkled on several different embossing powders and flakes, then heat embossed. The back remains tacky and easy to apply across the page.

I fussy cut one of the notebook pages, inked, and applied modeling paste with a doily stencil. Inside the doily, I stamped my title. You can see just a bit of my hand stitching around the photo mat here too.

The bunch of flowers in the main kit is so gorgeous and were so perfect to tuck into the peak-a-boo tear in the corner here. I tied a couple more charms with the silky pink baker's twine. The vines were created with the wires I snipped off the flowers.

Thanks for joining me for my February Kit Creations!! I hope you are inspired to try out some of these techniques with your kit. There are still a few kits available in our ScrapThat! Store. Be sure to pick yours up before they are all gone.

Cupid Build-A-Card by GD Lisa Blastick

 Hello again!

It's Lisa here today to share with you how I made my "Be My Cupid" card. I mentioned earlier that I would share it with you on ScrapThat! So as promised...I'm sharing the full tutorial. As you will see...it sure is very easy to make with the February Kit from ScrapThat!

So here below is the card that you will be making.

This is a side view of the card...as you can see, it really has some dimension to it. It is also lovely for the upcoming Valentine in your life.

So lets get started!
First take a piece of white cardstock. I usually use a heavier cardstock like Bazzill or DCWV
because of the weight of the embellishments. I used Bazzill White Smooth Cardstock for this card.

Next cut the cardstock at 5 inches and then fold it in half so the card base is 5 x 6 inches.

Use the beautiful square doily that comes with the main kit and cut the corners off.
You will only use 2 sides...so you will be able to save the other pieces for another project or make a duplicate card if you want to send one to someone else.
Love is in the Air... :)

Take 2 pieces of the doily and place them on opposite sides of the card as shown here.

Diecut a piece of pink cardstock.
I used Decorative Labels Eight...but you can use whatever you have on hand or make a rectangle.
I then placed the white netting on top of the pink cardstock.

Take the white felt hearts that are in the main kit, one large and one smaller than that.
Using permanent glue....hold down the pink twine while you go around the heart.
Let it dry for a little bit.

Place the small roses from the main kit and add the cherub from the add on kit in the center.
Place them on the smaller of the 2 felt hearts.

When it is dry, layer the 2 pieces together.

Add the lovely flowers and make a bow with the ribbon from the main kit.
I used Microsoft Word for Mac for the title and diecut it with Spellbinders Mix'd Media Elements.
Last but not least, add some pearl swirls and this card is complete!

I hope you were inspired to make your own Valentine Card too.
It is so easy and fast...yet your loved ones will
think you worked on it for hours...
Have a Happy Valentine's Day!
xoxo

Build a Page with Sandi C

Hi, there, everyone! Sandi C here today to share some details on how this page came together. I love doing and occasional round layouts as it helps me be more creative. There are many ways now to create a doily-edged circle but I'll be showing you how I did it this time.

First you need to select the papers that you think you might want to use on your project.

Using my Cricut Imagine, I cut a 11.5 inch circle from GBS to use as my base.  While I had the machine turned on, I went ahead a cut a cute photo mat using my A Child's Year cartridge.

I did ultimately decide to use the opposite side of the paper but here it is after cutting.

Next I took a sheet of the numbered paper and starting cutting 1.5 inch strips until I had cut the entire sheet. I think I used most of it but not all.

Then taking a Martha Stewart lace edged punch (but any similar punch would do), I began punching one of the long sides of the 12x1.5 inch strips. When you are finished with that, this is a good time to ink your edges.

Next I took the long strips and snipped them into half inch pieces. Now they are ready for layering and gluing around the circle.

A view from the front as you are working.

And the view from the back at the same point in progress.

So, here we are with the doily edge all completed. Doesn't that look frilly and nice?

My next step was to take the pink ric-rac trim from the kit and glue it all the way around at the edge where the circle and doily edge meet. You don't have to do this step but I thought it was a great way to use that pretty trim.  I also went and ahead and started adding some elements to the page such as the pink note card and the white Zva bloom which I cut in half to layer under my photo.

Here's a close-up of my 3 little canvas hearts which I embossed and then stitched together.  I also misted them a pink tone and frayed the edges a bit.

Now it's time to mount your photo on the photo mat and ink those edges as well.

Because I knew that the white Zva bloom was going under the photo, I used a piece of corrugated cardboard to elevate the whole photo and help it remain sturdy.  Then I ran tape down it and taped it to my page. Faster and sturdier than foam squares!

Then I just started adding in my embellishments. At this point, I kind of stopped taking photos because I was really concentrating on my work. But here's a close-up of one corner. The small blue flower was from my stash.

I thought the little cherub would be cute sitting amongst the hearts, so I added it here!

Remember those awesome wooden hearts? I inked mine a pink color and used it as a photo corner. I also dabbed it as well as some of my flowers and my b/g page with a bit of white Gesso. Then I finished by adding my title and subtitle as well as my butterflies. Butterflies are courtesy of Lisa Gregory.

Once again, here is the completed page:
