Thanks Kaitlyn and girls, I already miss you!!!!

And here is my first page based in the Beautiful November sketch by Amarilys Doria.

This page is about my kids a few years ago... I adore this picture.
I worked with the main kit, EAO and FAO.

My second page:

"NEW LOOK"

The second page is about my new hair cut.  I used the Main kit, FAO and EAO.  I used the Zva blings like buttons and with the twine made a loops buttonholes to try to look like a line of pearls buttons like the bridal gowns.

Sarah's Mini-Fan Embellishment Tutorial

Sarah here with a tutorial on how to create the mini-fan embellishments from my "Sisters" layout - done with the ScrapThat! November Kit "Remember When . . . " Here is my layout with the fans on it!
And here is the tutorial on how I created the fans!

Mini Fan Tutorial
Items required:
Craft Knife//Sharp Scissors
Scoring Tool
Heat Embossing Tool
Strong White Craft Glue
Patterned Paper
Craft Sticks
Brown Ink pad (optional)
Patterned Stamp
Watermark Ink
Embossing Powder
Scrap (i.e. waste) Paper

1. Cut strips of patterned paper for the fan – for the fans on my layout, I have used strips that are 2-inches wide by 7-inches long.

2. Ink, Stamp, Emboss Sticks
  • Ink the craft sticks with the brown ink (you can skip this step – but I liked the darker colour of the inked sticks). ALLOW TO DRY thoroughly before doing the next three steps.

  • Stamp the craft sticks with your patterned stamp using watermark ink.
  • Sprinkle the stamped area with embossing powder – make sure to tap the sticks and get all the excess embossing powder off so that the pattern will be clear.
  • Use your heat tool to set the embossing.

3. Stamp/Emboss Paper
  • Put the scrap (waste) paper over your patterned paper strip so that only about ½ an inch of the long edge of the paper is exposed.

  • Stamp along the exposed edge of the patterned paper with your stamp using watermark ink.
  • Sprinkle the stamped area with embossing powder – make sure to tap the paper and get all the excess embossing powder off so that the pattern will be clear.
  • Use your heat tool to set the embossing.

4. Fanfold/Accordion Fold your Patterned Paper strip.
  • Determine the width of the fold you want. I based this on the width of the mini-popsicle sticks I used – so each fold is 3/8-inch.
  • Score the paper every 3/8-inch (or whatever measurement you’re using) using your scoring tool.

  • Fanfold your paper – you want the ends of the fan to fold backwards so that the craft sticks aren’t exposed once they’re affixed to the paper.
5. Distress the fan (optional)
  • Use your knife/scissors to gently distress the edges of the patterned paper.

6. Affix the craft sticks
  • Use a very strong craft glue (Aleene’s Tacky Glue works well) to affix the craft sticks to the ends of the fan – leave a good amount of the craft stick exposed at the bottom of the patterned paper strip. ALLOW TO DRY thoroughly.

  • Affix the two exposed ends of the craft sticks to one another to create the fan – you can easily adjust the width of your finished fan at this stage by adjusting the angle at which the sticks are joined.

Thanks for dropping by today - I hope you'll give this tutorial a try - be sure to post to our ScrapThat! Gallery if you do!

"How I did that"...by Sandi Smith

Hi everyone...Sandi S here today to share with you how I added the textured leaves to the background of this layout made with the Beautiful November ScrapThat!Kit.

And here is a little close-up:

Here are the items you will need:
1. Stencil. Doesn't  matter what you use...this one is a cheapie from the Dollar store (and I don't always clean them).
2. Molding or textured paste or both. I sometimes like to layer the texture paste over the molding paste depending on my image.
3. Staz On Ink
4.Ink(I used the Prima Ink that comes in the November kit.)
5. Knife or stiff cardboard to apply the paste.
6. Stamp. You can use any texture or script stamp that your heart desires but I tend to always use this one from Tim Holtz

Step 1:
Determine where you want your image to be. I usually place them where I indeed to place flower clusters or peeking from behind photos.Using your knife or cardboard apply the paste to the stencil and lift up on the paste for a more textured effect.

 Step 2:
Dry with heat gun or allow to dry on it's own. I prefer to not use the heat gun because it tends to cause the paste to bubble, giving it a more round than textured look. But I know...who likes waiting for things to dry!
 Step 3:
When dry, take the Ink and rub over top of your image.

 Step 4:
Do not use a stamping block . Using your hands, dab the stamp into the Staz On and just randomly stamp over your stenciled image. No need to be particular as I like to see the stamp extend pass the edge onto the paper.

You can also add Glimmermist as I have done below. I like to see the mist pool around the edges of the stenciled image.
Here is a little sneak of this same process using the December ScrapThat! Kit but I also added Stickles.

There is no right or wrong to this process and the possibilities are endless...Give it a try!!!

Tracey Gregory ~ Guest Designer Nov. Kit Projects

I am thrilled to be the November Guest Designer for the ScrapThat! Kit Club. ScrapThat! is a Canadian based kit club with beautiful and perfectly combined papers, flowers and embellishments. I wasn't sure what to expect when I received my kit but-WOW! Love these rich fall colors and all the Prima goodies that came with it!

Here is my first layout-using only items from the
main kit:

The pic is my daughter at the gates of the cemetery - yes, creepy, I know but we were shooting nearby in the leaves and she thought this would make a "cool, Cullen-type" shot. These BoBunny papers were rich and exotic and I water distressed the edges, then highlighted the wrinkles in Rub n' Buff. I made the flowers out of the black tulle ribbon and ZVA pearls that came with the kit. I will post a tutorial on the flowers later this month. I fussy cut the dragonflies and using the cracked glass tutorial by October GDT member Patti Hamil, created their funky wings. I painted the chipboard with black crackle paint and after inking the edges of the brown ribbon with the kit's Ingrid Bolme ink in Teak Wall, I wove it around the page and highlighted it with more ZVA pearls.

This is my second layout, using the inspired sketch by ScrapThat! DT member Amarilys:

This one is my fave! I used the main kit, the flower and embellishment add-ons and some mixed media from my stash. The frame is a $1 Michael's cheapie that I distressed and attached the Prima doors/shutters to. Aren't the Prima leaves and vintage keys just perfect for this palette?

The poem is one of my favorite by Robert Frost,"Nothing Gold can stay."

 Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
  Nothing gold can stay.
My Sketchabilities Layout used a totally different color palette with the same kit!
 See how versatile it is?

I altered the white Prima flowers in the kit by misting them with Tattered Angels in Cinder, trimming them down and highlighting the edges with Diamond Stickles. The little banner is from the Prima package itself. Thrifty or just cheap? You decide!

ScrapThat! Kit November Creations by Amarilys Doria

Amarilys here today sharing with you the projects that I made with the November Kit "Remember When..."

My first layout is based on my sketch for ScrapThat! November Kit.

We also have our November  Sketch Challenge Posted HERE.
Everyone is welcome to participate, all entries due by November 15th.

I used the Main Kit and The Embellishment Add On for this layout. The picture was taken earlier this year and is of my hubby and I with my best friend and her hubby. She is 6 months pregnant now and we are all exited to meet the baby!

Here are a few close ups:

For my next project, I made an altered container:
I used the Main Kit only for this project. This was a clear container that housed my husband's crystal light packs and I altered to hold my scrappy buttons.

and a birthday card:
I used the Main Kit and The Embellishment Add On for this card as well. I handmade the large flower and added stickles to it. I used the Prima printed banner from the EAO for my three piece banner. I just love how this card came out!

Finally, my last layout is based on the Sketchabilities's Sketch below:

and here's my take on it:
I used ScrapThat! November Main Kit only for this layout. The white pearls were leftover from June's kit. The pictures was taken a few weeks ago during the Epcot's Food and Wine Festival. We went there three times this year! I stayed pretty close to the sketch but added a few layers to suit my style. I decided to have my journaling hidden under the picture on the left (the yellow tag pulls out).

Here are a few close ups:

You can find the November Kit "Remember When..." on the ScrapThat! Kit Page. This kit is full of amazing products including Wild Orchid Crafts Flowers, gorgeous ribbon, Maya Road chipboard doors and stickpin, Prima Alphabet set in two colors, Zva adhesive pearls and much much more!
