Cereal Box Fun Tutorial with Monica

Hello there! I'm excited to be here to share a little something with you. Isn't Srap That! an amazing place to learn new things!  The supplies you will need for this tut: one cereal box, one punch, Gesso, foam brush or something to paint with, ink, and die cutting machine to emboss with, embossing folder, Heat tool- optional.

1. Take your punch that you want to experiment with, punch it out and then paint it with Gesso.

2. Now if you want to hurry it along just a little bit you can use your heat tool to dry it faster.

3. Now that you are pretty sure its dry take your emboss folder and whichever die cutting machine you have. I used my Cuttlebug.

Here you can see I am feeding it in using my Genius platform system. It's pretty awesome.

4. Look at that! Really cool right?  However....

I had other folders that I thought I should try. I couldn't stop and you might not be able to either!!

Experiment and play til you see something that you really like. I've included some examples. I did try to restrain myself and not use every folder I owned.

Now if you notice this butterfly comes in our main kit. It was a really nice thin material.

5. Now get out your ink and lightly go over your embossed items. I even rubbed two different colors on one of them. I did get excited about the inks too.

Then I had another thought!!! What if after the Gesso I went ahead and INKED the item. I used my Tim Holtz Metallic Distress Stain from my stash.. to paint the butterfly and THEN I embossed it.

Here is the end result. I love how this turned out as well.  I think there is a place for both methods!

What do you think??

Here I used both creations on my project using the Main Kit Only for this layout.

Thank you for looking. I hope you will participate in my challenge this month at Scrap That!
Happy Scrappn!!

August Kit Reveal and Blog Hop !!

Hello and Welcome to our August Kit Reveal and Blog Hop !
If you lose your way, here is the order:
We are so blessed to have the sweet and uber-talented,
Lisa Gregory
as our Guest DT for August!

Hi, My name is Lisa and by profession I am a registered nurse. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 children who are now successful young adults.  I have been a crafter my whole life. Back in 2005, when my son was doing his senior project with his girlfriend (who is now his wife) They were creating a scrapbook of their lives. They elicited my help as I was the crafty one. I found Scrapbook.com and saw the kind of scrap booking the artists did. I was amazed at the styles. It just wasn't cut and paste and stickers. It was 3 dimensional, it was gorgeous, and oh so inspiring. So I created a gallery, created my first layout and the rest is history. My style has changed a bit throughout the years, but playing with and scissors is still so therapeutic for me. I am honored and excited to be Guest Designing for Scrap That for the month of August.

Stop by Lisa's Blog

August Introductions

We have two fabulous introductions to make for August.

First, we are so delighted to introduce our
August Guest Designer

Lisa is well known for her amazing handcrafted flowers. She currently designs for Blue Fern Studios and is on the Donna Salazar 2013 Guest Design Team.

"Hi, My name is Lisa, and by profession I am a registered nurse. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 children who are now successful young adults.  I have been a crafter my whole life. Back in 2005, my son was doing his senior project with his girlfriend (who is now his wife). They were creating a scrapbook of their lives. They elicited my help as I was the crafty one. We took a ride to The Dollar Tree (our local dollar store) that had a section dedicated to scrap booking papers, albums, embellishments, flowers, and we grabbed everything we could find. I knew about the new way of scrap booking, but never gave it any thought until that trip to The Dollar Tree. After helping the kids create their albums, I was curious as to where I could get more "scrapbooking stuff". So I drove to our local Michaels and Joanns craft stores. That is when I became hooked. I sought out the local scrapbook stores and found stuff I didn't even know existed until then. I shopped and shopped and shopped some more. My style has changed a bit throughout the years, but playing with paper and scissors is still so therapeutic for me. I am honored and excited to be Guest Designing for Scrap That for the month of August."

Tulle Flower Tutorial by Amarilys

Amarilys here and today I have a tulle flower tutorial for you! It's a very simple flower tutorial that can be done in under 5 minutes! So, let's get started!

Supplies:
  • Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die
  • manual die cutting machine
  • small rose from ScrapThat! Kit
  • tulle from ScrapThat! Kit
  • white pearls from ScrapThat! Kit
  • glue dots

Step 1. Die cut 6 Tattered Florals out of the tulle included in this month's kit.

Step 2. Fold each flower in half and then in thirds. You should be holding something like this.

Step 3. Add tulle flower over a small scrap square piece of paper with a glue dot.

Step 4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you are done with the die cut flowers. You should have a very puffy looking flower right now. Don't worry about the paper layer int he bottom as you will cover it up in the next step!

Step 5. To embellish the center, add a small rose from the kit to its center and start adding white pearls all around the flower. I ended up using 7 large pearls.

Step 6. Here's your finished tulle flower ready for your layout or card!

and here is how it looks in a layout:

Thanks for stopping! I hope that you are inspired to make something with this amazing kit! If you want to see more of my creations, please stop by my blog.

July Kit Creations with Tracey G.

Hi there! Today I am going to share a little more detail about my creations with the gorgeous ScrapThat! July Kit featuring Pink Paislee's "Hope Chest" collection.

Here is my layout is based on Amy's sketch and uses the Main Kit items only:

Using a Martha Stewart corner punch, I made a doily of sorts from the sheet of cork. The little butterflies are cork as well. I am really loving the cork because of the texture and earthy feel and the cork Alphas are the perfect complement. The pic is my daughter at the falls near our house taken on her graduation from middle school day. She changed out of her "dress up" clothes and we took a nice walk at the Natural Bridge in North Adams, MA.

I love the way her hair is still "up and fancy" but she is in her comfortable clothes while at her childhood hangout. I tried to capture her sense of peace and wistfulness. There is a fabulous Crafter's Workshop stencil in the background that used with molding paste to capture that sense of time and passage. I fussy cut the flowers
and used gesso to lighten the flocked ribbon.
Love the banners in the sketch!

My next page was inspired by the same photo shoot
and is my Round Robin entry for Round One:

The little scrabble tiles are the cutest! We all got different letters, which was fun! The cork Thickers Alphas go so perfectly with the cork background. I love the nature and map prints to these papers.. which made me think of rolled up maps which led to..my background idea! I misted the papers lightly before wrapping them around a paintbrush handle and gluing them closed. I posted a tutorial on how I made my gesso embossed foliage on July 8. The Pink Paislee burlap butterflies give some great texture and match perfectly. The twine is from my stash.

This month I am hosting the DT Challenge.
My challenge for you is to make a canvas-any size-
using  pictures or just mixed media-just play!
Here is my inspiration piece:

I made the background with modge-podged sections of the kit paper, then using the mesh from the main kit as a stencil, applied light molding paste and lots of Heidi Swapp Mists. Once that was dry, I gessoed, stamped and just had some messy fun. I layered the pics of Vivi for a more 3 dimensional effect. That way I could gesso, paint and stamp the background but leave her sweet self clear. The butterflies are courtesy of the talented Lisa Gregory and were inspired by this gorgeous card. I printed them out in various sizes to give the illusion of motion. I added some Tim Holtz tissue tape and matted the pic with more papers from the kit. All the colors in this collection blend so seamlessly!

I named this one,"Defying Gravity" because Vivien, with the grace of God and diligence from her parents, has not had any respiratory difficulties despite her Cystic Fibrosis. She still takes multiple medications and requires restrictions that other 2 year olds don't have to deal with. I wanted to capture a moment of joy and freedom and hope!
